People generally tend to shoot the messenger. I think that much of the time in these situations, the innocent person already knows what their spouse is up to. They're so used to the bad behavior and saying or hearing negative things about anyone that calls the behavior out from the spouse, that the person trying to help ends up getting demonized. And dropped. It's happened to me a few times.
