I actually met someone like this about 10 years ago on Match. Luckily we met in a group he had gotten together a week later, and it was clear there was no interest on either side. It was so strange, and he ended up hurting one of the other girls he met through the site when she realized he was sleeping with one of the women he introduced as a friend. She, like you, thought she was meeting someone with great potential. I ended up having a conversation with the guy about leading people on like this.

Some people are just quite selfish and it sucks that they can think about how the other side might feel.
